Acne

Definition:

Acne is the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin; in particular, a condition characterized by red pimples on the face, most commonly amongst teenagers.

Acne can occur in several forms
- Occluded Pores (“comedones”), also known as blackheads or whiteheads
- Tender red bumps also known as pimples or zits
- Pustules (bumps containing pus)
- Cysts (deep pimples, boils)
Can be caused by hormones
When popped or improperly removed, acne can produce significant skin trauma and acne scars
